Winter works

Winter works.

28th March 2026.

13th February morning service passing our work site in the snow

It’s been a while since the last update. But we have been busy with the limited time that there is with no trains running. At the end of October we had started with our planning, for the completion of the North Cabin at Boat of Garten.

At the time of this picture, this location case is still being built in the yard.

Two location cases have been identified built up and populated with the equipment that is required to provide us with two track circuits, annunciator, and signal arm repeaters. The two track circuits, the berth track in front of the outer home (7) and the other over the points into Morley’s (2). The berth track circuit we have gone with a diode track circuit as it saves the need for a feed location at the remote end, and reduces the amount of cables that are required. For the track circuit over the points, we have gone with a medium voltage DC track circuit with a 20 ohm relay.

An annunciator has also been provided for the signallers. Which is located at the distant signal. This is to give the signaller advance notice of the approaching train, given them time to bell the south cabin and get a release on the signals into the station area and into the South cabins control. The annunciator has been repeated into the South Cabin, so on days when only one signaller is on duty. They will be notified of an approaching train from the North.

While running the cable out for the annunciator the opportunity has been taken to run a second cable for the signal lamp of the distant signal. Thus, removing the requirements for batteries to power the lamp each Autumn.

To aid the signallers, we have provided signal arm repeaters on all but 3 signals, for now. We have used BR style repeaters on the block shelf, which is looking very smart now. With all its indicators of the same type and era.

Lots more projects to come. Will do my best to keep you all up dated.
